Pastor Willie James Wilson, 83, was born on Sept 23, 1929 in Laurel, Mississippi to the late William McKinley Wilson and Mae Jewel Evans Wilson. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at his home.
Pastor Wilson was affectionately called “Sonny” or “Fox” by his family and friends. He graduated as valedictorian from Oak Park High School in Laurel, Mississippi. After graduation, Willie served his country for 4 years in the United States Army and 4 years as an airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Willie was honorably discharged from both branches of the military. He faithfully served as Pastor of Macedonia C.O.G.I.C for 16 years in Indianapolis, Indiana until his retirement.
After moving to Kokomo he worked at Swartout, Continental Steele, and Chrysler Corporation and later at the Indianapolis Public Library.
Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Mae Jewel Wilson, and son, Willie L. Wilson.
Pastor Wilson leaves to cherish his memories 5 daughters: Charlene K. Sanders (Indianapolis, IN), Marion A. (Bruce) Grady (San Antonio, TX), Tarita A. (A. Wendell) Brown (Kokomo, IN), April L. (John) Peters (Bedford, IN), and Sabrina E. Wilson (Indianapolis, IN); 1 daughter-in-law, Gloria Wilson (Cincinnati, OH); 13 grandchildren: Jericka (Jeriel) McKissack, Justin (Kinisha) Sanders, Langston Grady, A. Wendell Brown III, Amber (James) Williams, Quentin Brown, Sara Grady, Kyle Brown, John Peters Jr., and Charnell Peters; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary A. Dennis (Kokomo, IN); 1 aunt, Hazel Leaper (New Albany, MS); 3 uncles: Charles (Natalie) Evans, Fred (Glenda) Evans, and Roscoe Evans (Peoria, IL); 2 goddaughters, Cheryl Sutton (Kokomo, IN), and Julia Couch (Bedford, IN), and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2013, 11 A.M. at Refreshing Springs C.O.G.I.C., 3112 Easy Street, Kokomo, Indiana. Pastor Wendell Brown, Jr. will be the eulogist and Pastor Louis Norris will be the officiant. Visitation will be on Friday, March 8th from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Serenity The Prince of Peace C.O.G.I.C., 3412 East Prospect Street, Indianapolis and on Saturday, March 9th from 9 A.M. until the time of service at Refreshing Springs C.O.G.I.C., Kokomo.
