|Denon LaKete Beard was born July 29, 1972 in Kokomo,
Indiana, the son of Joseph Patterson and Alice Belle Beard-Childs.
Jerry L. Gold, was a special father to Denon throughout his life.
Denon received his education in the Kokomo School System
graduating from Kokomo High School in 1990. He also attended
ITT Tech in Indianapolis. Denon served his country as a member
of the United States Air Force, where he was honorably discharged.
Denon was a member of Refreshing Springs COGIC under the
leadership of Pastor Wendell Brown. Denon was employed as an
assembler with Chrysler LCC for 17 years. He was an active
member of UAW Local 685.
On February 17, 2011, Denon united in Holy Matrimony to Erika
Nicole Washington. They enjoyed a great life together.
Denon loved his family dearly and his family loved him. He was
on a fish bank at one month old in Michigan, while visiting his great
grandparents, Mazie and Herman Beard. His mother burned
pampers to keep the bugs off of him and cousin, Mondo, who was 2
months old. He rode his first horse with his mother, sister and
brother, Dionna and Donzell and cousin, Thomas Jr. (Andy) in
Michigan at age 10. Other shared memories include yearly family
vacations to his Aunt Alice and Uncle James VanWinkle farm in
Arkansas, special trip with cousin, Brad to New York where they
met Rev. Al Sharpton. He especially enjoyed a trip to Orlando,
Florida, where he and his family visited Disney World, Sea World,
and Circus World.
Denon was an outstanding cook and enjoyed feeding whoever
wanted to eat, a trait he learned from his mother. Growing up, he
proudly declared himself the man of the house and was very
protective of his mother, sister and brother. He gave his heart and
the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was a blessing to all
who knew and loved him. He had a sense of humor that was
unmatched. He was competitive to a fault and loved playing cards
with his family and friends with his favorite card partner, 'Morgan'
Denon had many interests and accomplishments in his life. He
was passionate about sports, where he would go long and hard
with his older cousins playing baseball, basketball, and football at
an early age. He was dedicated to watching Sports Center every
morning before going to school. And before he knew about Sports
Center, he would have his mother to finish watching a game and
take notes for him if it lasted past bedtime. Denon played varsity
football and basketball for the Kokomo Wildkats. He also played
basketball for the YMCA, Carver Community Center, and the PAL
Football and Baseball Leagues. One of his greatest joys in life was
coaching his two sons, Dominique and Brevin, and, his daughter
Arienne, as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Denon
devoted countless hours coaching children. As head coach, he
taught his players how to be responsible and respectable young
men and women. He, along with his awesome assistant coaches,
and team mother and friend, Tammy Smith, encouraged the
children to do well in school by developing meaningful relationships
with the parents. He was always available and his door was always
open. Denon coached with the PAL league for 10 years winning 6
championships with three different teams: the PACKERS, BEARS,
and CHIEFS. He also coached for Carver Community Center's
basketball league and added to his repertoire, a couple more
championships. He took the lessons learned from his accomplished
high school years and his family, and applied it to the children that
he so loved to mentor.
Denon went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30,
2012 at the age of 39 years, 10 months and 1 day. His sister,
